Hej!
I am Anders, the owner and founder of Malverconde Wine. I am a Danish dude from natural wine and hipster hotspot Copenhagen, Denmark. After many years of a crazy nomade life I have finally settled down in lovely Geneva in beautiful Switzerland.
And what an amazing place to be! The natural wine scene in Geneva is fastly developing these years, and the restaurant scene is packed with amazingly talented sommeliers and chefs who are open-minded and curious, and I love being part of this incredible world!
When I am not tasting, presenting, and or/buying and selling wine I am probably thinking about wine :)
I am also a family man, being a cat-dad to two kitties, Auwchy and Pauwchy, that I adopted when I lived in Lebanon. I love to ski, bike, read books and meeting new people in a very informal way, so do reach out if you're curious to know more about natural wine or just want to grab a bite or drink a glass :)
Skål!
I was in my early twenties when I woke up after an imbibed and festive night in Paris, where I had tried this - at the time new and underground thing - called natural wine. Instead of the usual horror of a crippling headache, I felt something else: I was tired, but that was it!
From then on, there was no looking back. I started frequenting obscure little bars in non-gentrified areas of Paris, toasting with strangers and continuously feeling great, not only physically because I was no longer drinking chemical wine, but I also felt an amazing emotional connection, shared passion and a sense of true community through wine.
As my French gradually improved, I started to get into the more technical aspects of wine. I learned what a "mousy" wine is (sometimes the hard way!), the difference between maceration and direct press, and why appellations and bureaucracy is such a pain for small, independent natural wine makers.
As my knowledge and understanding grew over the years, so did my passion and curiosity. It was an endless feed-back loop of tasting and learning more, only to realise I had to taste more to learn more. There is always more learn and discover, and to this day I am continuously humbled by how much I still have to learn.
And what incredible people I have met over the years! From small independent and noble winemakers scraping a living out of a few barren acres all whilst making incredible wine without compromising their ideals, over sommeliers in 3-star Michelin restaurants to converting my parents to only drinking natural wine, it all comes together in a shared passion for natural wine.
Natural wine seamlessly brings together fundamental values of integrity, respect for nature, and socio-economic and environmental sustainability. It leads to cultural exchanges between cultures and languages, and it brings together people from all walks of life. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, the only thing that matters is the passion for wine and respect for people and the nature.
The world of natural wine is an endless journey of learning and discovering. It is a world without borders, and my hope is to bring as many people as possible with me on this truly life-changing voyage of discovery and passion - there is always room for one more, come along!
I spent some truly incredible years of roaming the globe, backpacking and travelling in pretty unconventional places such as Iran, Liberia, Georgia and Ukraine to mention but a few, living in Paris, Jerusalem and Beirut and I have also been so fortunate to pick up 5 languages.
Somehow I managed to obtain two degrees in International Relations, study at Sciences Po Paris, work my way through the Danish Foreign Service and the Danish Ministry of Justice as a civil servant, and spending two years inspecting prisons around the world for the United Nations.
In 2023 I found myself being in the unusual situation of living in Geneva and finally having a life predictable enough to be able to take the jump into the unknown and pursue my always-present passion for wine: I started Malverconde Wine and became a business owner and entrepreneur.
I love every part of it, and I hope that the natural wine I present can bring you as much joy and amazing experiences as it has brought me.
Hope to share a glass with you, cheers!
